WM 5 – Velocity Calculation, Friction, and Hydraulic Grade Lines

This course will present the basic calculation of velocity, using the general formula of Flow Rate = Velocity x Area.  Velocity in pipelines and treatment processes will be examined, as well as the impact of velocity on friction, and the effect of friction on hydraulic grade lines.  Several example problems will be presented, so that the student will be able to apply this formula to the calculation of flow rate, velocity, and area successfully.  This course is intended for continuing education/contact hours for Water System Operators.  Approximate length:  1 hour.
